According to the UN, the establishment of robust environmental governance systems safeguards the environment and human rights, and works toward all 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals.
At its core, environmental governance is the system of rules, institutions and processes that shape how humans interact with the environment. It encompasses the policies, rules and norms that govern human behaviour, and addresses those who make decisions and how those decisions are made and carried out with the input of scientific research, the public and major stakeholders. It is therefore fundamental to the success of environmental policies, projects and programmes in the modern world.
This four-day training programme provides a timely and innovative learning experience for environmental programme coordinators, policy-makers, implementers and public officials to establish and integrate strategy and governance principles into environmental policies, projects and programmes. Delegates will learn how to develop and implement new environmental policies and multilateral agreements to succeed, influence sound decision-making and encourage public participation, and how to monitor, assess and report the outcomes of environmental programmes.
