Overview

Policy Skills: Strategic Foresight and Planning

In an unpredictable and evolving world, climate change, pandemics and the evolution of digital technologies are creating difficult environments for policy-makers and implementors to navigate. These scenarios are transforming politics at all levels from the grassroots to the global multi-national agencies. To support the evolution of a greener, fairer and digitally compatible future, policy-makers and implementors need to strengthen their preparedness for change.

Using the principles of strategic foresight, currently practiced by the European Commission, this course will address how to anticipate trends, risks and emerging issues and how to utilise this information to advise strategic plans in policymaking, implementation and preparedness for change.

This three-day training programme creates a learning experience for policy-makers, implementers and public officials to explore, anticipate and shape policy to be fit for the future. Delegates will learn how to analyse and interpret future trends and risks while understanding how it can inform their decision-making and actions to take. Through the use of shared experiences, case studies and guided learning, delegates will complete the course with a framework to integrate into their planning and preparedness to ensure they’re taking steps to prepare for the future.
