Overview

Financial Regulatory Compliance: AML & Combatting Financial Crime

Financial crime has risen dramatically in recent years. The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime estimates approximately 2.7% of global GDP is laundered each year. In addition to this, in the UK, 64% of businesses experienced fraud, corruption or economic/financial crime between 2020 and 2022, a 16% increase from 2018. If financial institutions fail to robustly tackle financial crime, they face a plethora of risks: damage to their reputations, aiding criminal activity beyond the financial environment, losing business revenue and income for customers, and destabilising business operations.

Regulations and supervision exist to prevent financial crime activity and support financial institutions to strengthen their systems and processes to combat money laundering and financial crime. There is a manifest need for effective systems and controls to enable firms to detect, deter and prevent financial crime from interfering in their legitimate business services.

This two-day intensive programme provides the fundamentals of compliance to combat the proliferation of financial crime in the financial sector. Participants will analyse current international regulations and standards in place to tackle AML and other financial crime, how to identify, monitor and respond to the various typologies of financial crime, and how to strengthen the compliance structures within their organisations. By the end of the course, attendees will be equipped to establish robust policies and procedures to counter financial crime, and to create a compliant and secure system with reduced risks to day-to-day business transactions.
