Strategic Policy-Making Masterclass

For a policy to achieve its objectives in the implementation and delivery phase, a robust policy-making process must lay the foundation for success. Finding a clear path to effective policy often entails the consideration of a raft of competing interests. Introducing the principles of strategic thinking, planning and decision-making ensures that policy generation can be achieved with precision to reach the desired outcomes. The OECD highlights how strengthening evidence-informed policy-making increases the capacity for good governance and effective decision-making in the creation of policy by focusing on capabilities, opportunity and motivation through behavioural change.

This three-day training programme provides participants with a deep understanding of the policy-making cycle and how to integrate strategy into all parts of the policy process to ensure it is cohesive, comprehensive and successful. Attendees will learn how to create evidence-informed policy, diagnose a policy problem, generate robust policy ideas and appraise those options, and how to measure the impact and risks in policy-making.

Through the use of guided learning, case studies and workshops, public and policy officials will explore strategic decision-making skills and how behavioural science can influence and persuade their stakeholders to achieve policy objectives. The course will conclude with customised scenario-based action plans to embed the learning from the course and ensure that key takeaways from the programme can be immediately applied in the workplace.
