Overview
Mastering Parliamentary Excellence: Representation, Processes and Duties
A parliamentarian’s duty is to debate and pass laws, scrutinise budgets and bills, and represent their people. To complete this role dutifully, elected representatives must enhance their knowledge of parliamentary processes, build their accountability to serve, and excel in their capacity to scrutinise bills and make good decisions. Without these principles, a parliamentarian is at risk of losing the confidence of those they represent, undermining the parliamentary process and, ultimately, being voted out in the next election.
This five-day programme will take a deep dive into the roles and responsibilities of a parliamentarian and closely examine the processes integral to their role to enable participants to consolidate their knowledge and build their capacity as a parliamentarian or a member of parliamentary staff. The course has been curated to establish the complete parliamentarian by setting out the fundamentals of parliamentary processes, committees, and budgeting, while also giving vital and practical skills for public speaking and debates. We welcome new and experienced parliamentarians, as well as support staff and clerks working in and around parliament, to attend the course and master parliamentary excellence.
Benefits
The programme offers a comprehensive exploration of parliamentary processes through immersive and engaging lessons that will benefit you and improve your performance in parliament.
